James MacDiarmid - Educational designer & consultant B.A., B.Ed., M.Ed.

James’ primary interest is both in E.O Wilson’s notion of biophilia /biophilic design and the restorative, positive effects nature has on our emotional intelligence, including but not limited to wellbeing and prosocial (sustainable) behaviour patterns. 

James has previously engaged in research on two projects; Independent Mobility as a Critical Aspect of Children’s Development and Quality of Life, commissioned by the Policy Studies Institute; and, Child Friendly Communities Research Engagement Project, commissioned by Stockland developers. James currently holds a position with the LEGO Foundation as a PlayFutures Co-Creator, and is a contributing writing for TEDxSydney.

James has provided consultancy services to the Borough of Redbridge Education Network, England, The Royal Society of Chemistry, London, an early childhood, community-based not-for-profit provider, in NSW, Australia, and most recently for UNICEF HQ, Sydney, Australia.

Founder James MacDiarmid is the creative force behind Eco Centric Design.

Passionate and experienced in education & learning design, and an avid naturist, James has parlayed his expertise across fields into creating evidence based learning space designs that, not just include, but rely on nature to deliver environments that deliver improved educational outcomes as well as positive psychological benefits for children.
